Naomh Brid 7 - Art

Naomh Brid 7 - 4th class recently studied the life and work of Edvard Munch. We looked at photos of his paintings in the Munch Museum in Oslo. Here are some of our artistic responses to his painting, 'The Scream' and some of our comments.....

Edvard Munch’s art was some of the most fascinating art I have seen. His life story is kind of sad. Katie

Edvard Munch’s paintings are really sad. They made us think of sad things, such as death and illness. Laura

My three favourite Edvard Munch paintings were ‘The Scream’, ‘The Vampire’ and ‘Madonna’ because they were very emotional. Cillian

The part where he said that death, insanity and disease were the angels at his cradle felt sad to me. Meadhbh

Judging by his paintings, you could see he had a very sad life. Luke

Edvard Munch did not lead a very happy childhood as his mother died when he was very young. Caoimhe

‘Insanity, illness and death were the black angels that kept watch over my cradle and accompanied me all my life.’ Edvard Munch said this about the death of his Mum and his siblings. Anna

I think the scream is an emotional painting and has its meaning. He was terrified of something and couldn’t explain so he painted it. Joy

Edvard Munch’s mother and sister died when he was very young and this inspired some of his paintings. Micheál

A few of Edvard Munch’s paintings have curvy, wavy lines. Mark

Some of Edvard Munch’s paintings are colourful and others are black and white. I liked the curves in them. Laura

I think that when his mother and sister died, it made him sad. He really showed his feelings in his paintings Jessica

Most of his paintings are sad and they make people think of illness. Lucy

I like Edvard Munch because his paintings are really interesting. I liked ‘The Scream’ and ‘The Vampire’. Cathal

I think he started art when his mother died because he was so sad and lonely. My favourites were ‘The Vampire’ and ‘The Scream’, in colour. Padraig

I think when his mother died, he started painting to show his emotions and a lot of his pictures show this emotion as if he was remembering his mother as he painted. I like ‘The Scream’ in colour and ‘The Ashes’. Sam

I think Edvard Munch had a sad childhood but he grew up to be a great artist. My favourite painting was ‘The Scream’ in colour. Eoin

I think most of his paintings were sad because his mom and sister died when he was young. My favourite picture is ‘The Scream’ in colour. Órla

I think his paintings were filled with sadness. When he painted he remembered his mom and his sister. I liked ‘The Scream’ in black and white. Rachel
